Ruth Louise Hembrough, 97, of Jacksonville, IL, died Friday, May 21, 2021, at the home of her daughter. She was born May 26, 1923, in Morgan County, the daughter of Homer and Aileen Ledferd Baptist. She had been married to Joseph Long, and later to Kenneth Hembrough. She is survived by two daughters, Ruthie (Fred) Weed of Cottonwood, AZ, and Jana (Tom) Atkins of Jacksonville; eleven grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Charlene and Patty Watson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers and two sisters, Carnie Baptist, Dorothy Headen, Jim Baptist, Ed Baptist, Betty Smock, and Bobby Baptist. Ruth had worked in Dietary Services for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Ruth was known for her quiet yet firm support of her loved ones throughout her life. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery.
