Ruth served in secretarial and administrative assistant positions including MacMurray College, Petefish Chevrolet, and serving as the secretary to the business agent for the Carpenters Local #904 from which she retired. Although Ruth was employed in a number of different employment positions, the position she was most proud of was being the mother to Steve, Dave, Tim, and Caren, and when she ultimately became "Mom-Mom" to her eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. It was this occupation of which she was the most proud of holding her entire adult life. Her children wish to acknowledge that "Mom" was also the chief transportation officer for the childrens various sporting endeavors, the numerous Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, and Explorer programs her children and her husband, John, were involved in throughout their lives. Ruth could be seen at various sporting and scouting events as she would support her children and grandchildren throughout their lives. Ruth throughout her life was an avid bridge player and was a regular member of a monthly bridge club. Through her adult life, she and John, also were participants in a Pinochle Club with a number of friends from Central Christian Church. It was through Ruth and Johns participation in these two card clubs that Ruth formed many lifelong friendships, all of which friendships she cherished. From her youth, Ruth has been very involved in her church. Ruth was baptized into the Christian Church in Palmyra, Illinois, then upon her marriage to John; Ruth, John and their children became members of Central Christian Church of Jacksonville, and ultimately, Ruth became a member of First Christian Church of South Jacksonville.
