Sandra Jo Bruns, 72, of Jacksonville, IL, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Quincy, the daughter of Delbert Cooley and Ethel (Bradbury) Cooley. She married Alvin Jay Bruns, Jr. on April 12, 1975, in Jacksonville, and he survives.

She is also survived by two sons and one daughter, Joshua Bruns and Jennifer (Nathan) Williams, both of Jacksonville, and Justin Bruns (Maggie Morrell) of Beardstown; nine grandchildren, Jaeleigh, Garrett, Wyatt, Adisyn, Evan, Olivia, Rylee, Mateo, and Avalynn; one brother and two sisters, Larry (Debbie) Cooley of St. Ann, MO, Connie (Wendell) Kurfman of Belleville, and Linda Newman of Quincy; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Jim (Barb) Bruns of Winchester, Mary (Kevin) Holderby of Carterville, and Ed Bruns of White Hall; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother who raised her, Irene Cooley; and one brother-in-law, Mark Newman.

Sandra was a graduate of Perry High School. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, arts and crafts, and watching Days of Our Lives. She especially loved anything that involved her grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will be held 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
