Tonnia R. Carl, 74, of Jacksonville, IL, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 10, 1949, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Harvey and W. Ruth (Bailey) Galloway. She married Theodore Richard "Ted" Carl, the love of her life, on August 17, 1975, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2008.

Tonnia is survived by her son, Kevin (Kathy) Carl of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Tuesdae and Alexis Carl; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Tim (Lisa) Galloway of South Jacksonville; sisters, Turea (Donald) Biggs of Murrayville and Toyua (Rodney) Teague of Divernon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Trassa Scott and Michael Galloway.

Tonnia ran and operated Carl's Cleaners together with her husband for forty years. After the closing of their business, she went to work for Rachel Hill at Heinl Florist. She loved arranging flowers and working for Rachel, who she adored.

Her family thought of her as "the go-to seamstress," as she was always helping repair clothing. Tonnia loved spending time with her family. She especially loved their annual trips to Florida to see the ocean and Walt Disney World. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 1-2 pm, prior to the service. The burial will take place at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the family in care of Kevin. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
