Verlee Ann Edwards, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born Mar. 6, 1933, in Vinton, IA, the daughter of Merritt and Esther (Bentzinger) Brooks. She married William Edward "Bill" Edwards on Nov. 28, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, IA and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2014. She is survived by one daughter, Terri (Bob) Collings of Jacksonville; one son, Scott (Christine) Edwards of Macomb; four grandchildren, Darron (Meghan) Collings of Jacksonville, Katie (Rick) Rohne of OFallon, MO, Brittney Kugler of Macomb, and Kellsi (Marty) Litwiller of St. Louis, MO; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Josh Collings; two brothers, Herbert Brooks and Elton Brooks; and two sisters, Irene Fremin and Ethel Lindell. Mrs. Edwards had worked with her husband at The Credit Bureau in Macomb and was active with the Macomb Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of P.E.O. and the Red Hat Club. Verlee enjoyed sewing, painting, and especially traveling. Her family and her faith were the most important parts of her life. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will meet friends 3-4 p.m. prior to the service. A burial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to Wesley Chapel UMC or Jacksonville Salvation Army.
