Virginia Sparrow, 98, formerly of Literberry, IL, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Griggsville Estates. She was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Manuel and Mary Smith Devarose. She married Cornelius "C.F." "Neal" Sparrow on March 26, 1941, in Bowling Green, MO, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2003. She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Neal (Barbel "Babs") Sparrow, Jr. of North Port, FL, Jack (Donna) Sparrow, of Port Charlotte, FL, Dan (Dixie) Sparrow of Cypress, TX, and Virginia "Jenny" (Steve) Fox of Baylis; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; twenty-two great-great grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Mary and Margaret. She was preceded in death by one son, John Edward Sparrow (surviving wife, Karen of Bluffs); and four sisters; and three half-sisters. Mrs. Sparrow retired from Bound to Stay Bound in Jacksonville. She enjoyed needlework and camping. She especially loved her family and Sunday family dinners with fried chicken. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. Due to the pandemic and understanding that 50 people can be in the funeral home at one time, a walk-through visitation will be held 10:00 11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
