William L. "Bill" Bateman Jr., 58, of Virginia, IL, passed away at his home Sunday, August 21, 2022, due to complications from a broken hip. He was born February 17, 1964, the son of William Bateman, Sr., and Joan Anderson Bateman. Bill is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (John) Blean of Beverly Hills, FL, and Cayli Jo Bateman of Murrayville; grandchildren, Jacob, Jeremiah, Jaylee, Rosemary, and Sophia; brother, Ronald L. "Butch" (Betty) Cobren of Philadelphia; two sisters, Linda Sutton of Virginia, and Marlene of Germany; and several stepbrothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Bateman Sr.; his mother, Joan Anderson Bateman Coffey and her husband, Haden Coffey Sr.; his best friend, Larry Devlin; and several aunts and uncles. Bill was a longtime resident of Virginia. After high school, he took cosmetology classes to follow in his father's footsteps, but instead began his own business, Bill's General Contracting. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, going out to eat, driving his prized Mustang, and remodeling his home and the apartment building that he owned on the Virginia square. Bill was an avid Cubs fan. He also loved riding his Harley with friends and had been a member of ABATE. Friends and family were everything to him. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to his daughters, Jennifer and Cayli, in care of the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home.
