William H. "Bill" Gaines, 56, of Arenzville, IL, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at his home. He was born May 22, 1964, in Jacksonville, the son of John A. and Lillian DeGroot Gaines Sr. He married Stacey Copley on September 17, 1997, in Jacksonville, and she survives. He is also survived by three sons and five daughters, Zachary Gaines and Lillian Gaines, both of Jacksonville, and Alyssa Gaines (companion Patrick Pulliam), Laci Gaines, Alizza Gaines (companion Ty Malcomson), Cameron Gaines, Connor Gaines, and Sailym Gaines, all of Arenzville; six grandchildren, Bailee, Zayden, Silas, Everlyn, Amir, and Adalyn; two brothers and two sisters, including Debbie (Rex) Goodpasture of Good Hope, and Pattie (Bob) Dobrovolny and James (Michell) Gaines, both of Arenzville; several nieces and nephews, including his great nephew, Elijah; special friends Tim and Lou Plowman of Concord; and Kay Berry Parker, a family friend that was always there to hold his hand. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Doris Gaines; one son, Adam Gaines; and his good friend that he considered a brother, Brad Gillis. Mr. Gaines was a 1982 graduate of Triopia High School. He had worked at Mobil Chemical and then Jacksonville Developmental Center, before returning to Mobil (Pactiv) as a supervisor. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as fiddling around Billy Bobs Workshop. He especially loved watching movies with his grandchildren. Due to the pandemic and understanding only 50 people can be in the funeral home at one time, a walk-through visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
