Obituary

William (Bill) C. Griswold, 84, of Jacksonville, Illinois, passed away on August 27, 2026.

Bill was born November 12, 1941, in Vermillion, South Dakota, the fourth of six children born to Ernest and Marvel (Legg) Griswold. He grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, and graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, with a degree in history and education. Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War.

On July 7, 1984, Bill married Ann Westberg, and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage. Bill enjoyed traveling with Ann and his children, especially their camping trips, and treasured the time he spent with their children and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and could often be found cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks, St. Louis Cardinals, and Indiana Fever, or watching a NASCAR race.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ann Griswold; his sons, Craig Griswold and Steven (Robin) Griswold of Merriam, Kansas; his daughter, Sherry (Anthony) Mansur of Jacksonville, Illinois; his daughter-in-law, Emily Griswold; his grandchildren, Madison, Lincoln, Peyton, and Violet; his siblings, Norm Griswold of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mary (Jim) Keefer of Lawrence, Kansas, Ginny Fearing of Aldergrove, British Columbia, Canada, Cathy Griswold of Longmont, Colorado, and Steve (Kathy) Griswold of Bozeman, Montana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marvel Griswold.

A visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A private burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a fund for his grandchildren, in care of Ann Griswold.
